What is an overhead crane
Overhead crane, also called bridge crane, is a type of indoor crane found in industrial environments. An overhead bridge crane, featuring runways, bridge, and hoist. It consists of runways built into the building’s support structure, connected by a single or double girder configuration, called “bridge”, A hoist or double hoist, the lifting mechanism of overhead bridge crane, travels along the bridge.

The different types of indoor bridge crane: single girder overhead crane, double girder overhead crane, underslung crane.

Single Girder Overhead Crane
The bridge consists of one main girder supported on each side by an end carriage. The hoist and trolley are most commonly underhung, meaning they run on the bottom flange of the bridge. Single girder overhead crane is relatively less expensive for the following reasons:

2.Small size, low freight.
3.Easier installation
4.Simpler hoist and trolley design

Double Girder Overhead Crane
The bridge consists of double main girder supported on each side by an end carriage. The hoist and trolley run on the top of the bridge girders. The double girder gantry crane is usually used in heavy duty industrial environments where the crane has to lifting more than 15 tons, or the span is more than 20m.

Underslung Crane
The crane wheels are supported by the bottom flange of the crane runway girders as the crane track. These types of cranes allow you to maximize the use of equipment floor space to produce and store materials because they are supported by ceiling trusses or roof structures.
